| 21 December, 1866 The Austro Hungarian navy realizes the first successful try with a torpedo. The creator of the new weapon is Robert Whitehead, who developes the idea of the Austrian sea officer Ivan Blaga Lupis. The first battle torpedo travels by itself 800 metres and it’s considered to be very suitable for destroying bridges, anchor ships etc. Three years later, after improving, the torpedo is given for a mass production. |
